The Indigo BioSystems appliance is designed as a high availability system that integrates the hardware and software needed for lab workflow applications.  The workflow application uses semantic-web technology to describe instrument parameters and laboratory results in a ‘descriptor repository’.  The system will be a critical component in the laboratory operation.  The requirements for this application include:

  1. Computing capacity for multiple simultaneous laboratory operations
  2. Storage capacity for analytical descriptors for long-term operation
  3. Low maintenance, low configuration
  4. Disaster-recovery backup only (self healing disk)
  5. High availability (hot cut-over computing and database)
  6. Integrated support for compute, database and storage
  7. 7x24 on-site engineering support
  8. Industry standard components with external support capability

The following is a schematic diagram of the appliance system for a laboratory workflow application:

The system is assembled in a single chassis with the following components:

  1. Two servers configured to host both the application and the database
    1. Dual processor 2.8GHz/1 MB cache/64bit
    2. 32GB RAM
    3. 300 GB local disk (temp space and high speed working disk)
    4. Dual Gbit Ethernet controllers for redundant connection to company network
    5. Dual SAN connections to storage array

  2. A 24-bay disk array
    1. Configured as RAID with redundant parity disks
    2. Populated with 6, 7200 RPM 1TB SATA disks to provide 3.8TB working storage for instrument and workflow descriptors

The servers and the disk arrays are equipped with redundant power supplies and fans.  The system is supported with on-site and telephone support for both the application software and the hardware.

The system includes all of the software needed to host the Rubicon Repository and Laboratory Workflow applications.  The operating system, web application servers, database-servers are all included.  Indigo performs all installation, configuration and testing, including on-site qualification if required.  The laboratory users can administer the application software via the web interface, eliminating the need for application server support, database administration support and storage support.

The system includes standard interfaces for disaster recovery backup services.  Indigo can provide quotes for a variety of disaster recovery options including local and remote backup, including network backup and recovery services.

The first year of on-site, production support is included in the price of the system.

The system cost starts at $50,000
