Indigo BioSystems Internship Program

Are you looking to get a head start on your career? Then how about getting some hands-on experience by interning at Indigo BioSystems? Established to revolutionize the technology used to manage and analyze scientific data, Indigo is a software development company aimed at becoming the leading provider of scientific data management technologies.

Located in Indianapolis, Indiana, we offer a friendly atmosphere where you're not working on the same dull problems day after day. You will not get stuck porting crusty old programs to ASP.NET, or building a web site to advertise the departmental picnic. Indigo is a place where new technology, new frameworks and methodologies are incorporated into products as fast as you can learn how they can help. Free thought and new ideas are the norm here. At Indigo you will not work alone, you'll be mentored and coached by seasoned pros, including the founders of the company. Don't get lost in the corporate crowd; consider an internship with us today.

What do our interns do?
We always give our interns a big project working on real software. For example, in 2006, the intern project was to help build Indigo's production release test tools. Rubicon, Indigo's flagship product is now tested and released to paying customers using these tools. Here are some projects we're thinking of:

  • Image analysis applications for biological tissues using mass spectrometry
  • Semantic web (RDF) reasoning, visualization and searching
  • Advanced mathematical libraries for Indigo's stable floating point system
  • Automated test framework for our web service interface
  • New scientific analysis features for Indigo's data analysis application
  • Distributed data integration using ontologies and XML data formats

At Indigo we are passionate about software development. You can expect to work on interesting problems with smart people and be part of delivering something great.

Indigo BioSystems started in 2004 based on the concept that scientific software development requires a collaboration between scientists and software professionals. Our summer internship program allows talented college students to learn about both the life sciences and the software industry from leaders in both fields. As an Indigo BioSystems Summer Intern in Software Development you will be given a real project to work on that will ship as a part of one of our products. You will receive mentoring from the team at Indigo, and learn about the software development industry from experts. We're a small company, so you'll see everything that goes into software-not just code, but testing, marketing, sales, documentation, customer support, and user interface design-stuff you would never learn at a bigger company.
