The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Choose Indigo’s ASCENTTM Software

Indianapolis, IN.– Indigo Biosystems has been awarded a sole-source contract for the ASCENT™ software by the Division of Laboratory Medicine at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta.  After reviewing the needs and available market offerings, the CDC has acknowledged Indigo’s software package as the only “responsible source capable of meeting all of the Government’s requirements” for automated peak picking and integration.

The CDC brings national attention to developing and applying disease prevention and control with emphases on environmental health, occupational safety and health, health promotion, injury prevention, and educational activities. In support of these efforts, the Division of Laboratory Medicine must provide laboratory test results that that are of the highest possible quality.

Laboratories at the CDC conduct major studies of compounds like tobacco toxins and trans-fats that have led to significant changes in national public policies and dramatic improvements in public health.  The ASCENTTM software was contracted to maintain and improve the CDC standard of excellence. Improving the quality of results generated by the CDCs world-class laboratories will allow them to do more, even larger, population studies in the future.

After evaluating various solutions for the current manual data analysis and review processes which were are inefficient and time consuming, the CDC chose ASCENT™ to automate their analysis process in order to produce quality results.

“We are pleased and very excited that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have recognized ASCENT™ as the only software on the market with the capacity to thoroughly automate peak picking ”, said Raul Zavaleta, CEO of Indigo Biosystems.  “Early on in their evaluation of ASCENT™, they mentioned that they have been looking for a solution such as ours for many years.  Once they got a close look at ASCENT™, they quickly moved forward with a sole source purchase justification”.
